Science IRL

Science IRL is a YouTube channel that’s here to show the world what being a scientist is like, in real life. Our mission is to cultivate, especially in young people, enthusiasm for and a sense of belonging in STEM.

In each episode Molly visits a guest scientist in the lab. By doing experiments together and discussing their science, we show how key STEM concepts come to life when they’re used by real researchers — and most importantly, the humanity & joy of being a scientist at work.

    COVID researchers

We are collaborating with Team Halo, a United Nations initiative whose mission is to foster trust in Covid researchers, on a mini-series featuring scientists at the front lines of the pandemic. This project is supported by a Vlogbrothers Sponsorship, and was a ‘pick of the week’ on This Week in Virology (TWiV).

  • Molly and Cynthia admire some GMO tomatoes growing in the lab

    Women in plant biology

This series of 10 episodes featuring women plant scientists at leading research institutions across the country was funded by a Plant Biology Learning Objectives, Outreach Materials, & Education (BLOOME) Grant from the American Society of Plant Biologists.

    Cornell University REU

We are so proud to be a part of the National Science Foundation’s Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program at Cornell University. Each summer we train the REU students in scicomm & video production, culminating in the creation of a Science IRL episode about their research.
